Jonah’s Flight God commanded Jonah to go to the city of Nineveh and warn its inhabitants of their sins. Jonah, however, refused to follow God’s command and attempted to flee to Tarshish (Jonah 1:3).

The Fish’s Belly To stop Jonah, God sent a large fish to swallow him. After three days, Jonah prayed, and God delivered him from the fish’s belly (Jonah 2:2).

Nineveh’s Repentance Jonah eventually went to Nineveh and delivered God’s warning. Surprisingly, the people of Nineveh repented of their sins (Jonah 3:10). As a result, God spared the city from destruction.

Jonah’s story illustrates that God’s plans are greater than ours and that His grace and forgiveness are boundless.
