The Book of Amos is the seventh book of the Bible and is known for its focus on social justice. Amos was a simple shepherd whom God called to denounce the sins of Israel and the surrounding nations.
The Book of Amos is mainly divided into two parts:
- Part 1: Denunciation of the Nations (Chapters 1-2): This section contains Amos’s condemnation of neighbouring nations such as Moab, Ammon, Edom, Damascus, Gaza, Tyre, and Sidon. It prophesied the coming destruction due to their sins.
- Part 2: Denunciation of Israel and Hope (Chapters 3-9): In this part, Amos criticises the spiritual decline and social injustices within Israel. He calls for repentance and a return to God, while also expressing hope for future restoration.
The Book of Amos emphasises the importance of social justice, economic equality, and a right relationship with God. It remains relevant today, inspiring us to stand against social injustice and work towards God’s righteousness.
