Chapter 1: Queen Vashti Removed

The story begins with King Ahasuerus, who rules a very large Persian empire. He arranged a big feast and called Queen Vashti to come and show her beauty to the guests, but Queen Vashti refused to come. This made the king very angry, and after taking advice from his officials, the king removed Queen Vashti from her position as queen. 

The lesson we learn from this chapter is that positions and situations can change suddenly, even sometimes God removes one person to make place for another person for a bigger purpose.

Chapter 2: Esther Becomes Queen

After Queen Vashti was removed, the king began searching for a new queen. Many young women were brought to the palace, and Esther was one of them. Esther was a Jewish girl who was raised by her cousin Mordecai. She was kind and beautiful, and everyone liked her. The king also liked Esther very much, so he made her the new queen. 

This time, Mordecai heard about a plan to kill the king, then he told Esther, and she told the king about the plan. Because of this, the king’s life was saved. Therefore, Mordecai’s deed was written in the royal records.

The lesson of this chapter is that God places people in the right position at the right time, even before problems come.

Chapter 3: Haman’s Evil Plan

In this chapter of Esther, a man named Haman was given a very high position in the kingdom. The king ordered everyone to bow to Haman, but Mordecai, as a Jew, refused to bow to anyone but God. This made Haman very angry, and he did not want to punish only Mordecai, but he planned to destroy all the Jews in the empire. Later, Haman tricked the king into signing a law that allowed the Jews to be killed on a certain day.

The lesson of this chapter is that sometimes one person’s hatred can endanger many, but God already has a plan to save his people.

Chapter 4: Esther Decides to Help

In this chapter, when Mordecai heard about the new law, he told Esther that she must go to the king and ask for help. Esther was afraid because anyone who went to the king without permission could be killed, but King Mordecai told her that maybe she would become queen for his special purpose. Then Esther asked all the Jews to fast for three days and pray, and she decided to go to the king even if it was dangerous. She said, “ If I perish, I perish.” She was ready to risk her life to save her people”.  This chapter shows that courage, prayer, and sacrifice often come before deliverance

Chapter 5: Esther’s Banquet

Here, Esther went to see the king, and the king welcomed her kindly. Instead of telling her request right away, she invited the king and Haman to a banquet. During the banquets, she again invited them to another banquet the next day. At the same time, Haman was very angry because Mordecai still did not bow to him. Then Haman became so angry that he built gallows to hang Mordecai. From this chapter, we learn that while the enemy is planning something bad, God is already preparing a way to save his people.

Chapter 6: Mordecai Honored

One night, the king could not sleep, so he asked his servants to read the royal records of him. While listening, he discovered that Mordecai had once saved his life, but Mordecai had never been rewarded, and the king decided that Mordecai should be honored in public. Then, in a surprising turn of events, the king Haman led Mordecai through the city and honored him, and the same man who wanted to kill was now being honored by him. 

Chapter 7: Haman Destroyed

At the second banquet, Esther finally told the king her request, and she told him that someone had made a plan to kill her and her people. Then the king was shocked, and he asked who did this. Esther then told the king that Haman was the man behind the evil plan. 

From this chapter, we have learned that Evil plans often come back to the person who planned them. Wrong actions can destroy the wrongdoer.

Chapter 8: New Decree and Authority

In this chapter of Esther, Haman dies, and the king gives Haman’s house and position to Esther and Mordecai. Esther told the king about Mordecai, and the king gave Mordecai a very important position in the kingdom. A new law was made that allowed the Jews to protect themselves from their enemies, which brought hope and safety to the Jewish people.

Chapter 9: Victory and the Festival of Purim

On the day when the enemies planned to destroy the Jews people, the opposite happened. The Jews were able to defend themselves and defeat their enemies, as they were saved from destruction. To remember this great victory and deliverance, the Jews people started celebrating the festival of Purim, and it is still celebrated today. This shows that when God delivers us, we should always remember it and celebrate His goodness.

Chapter 10: Mordecai Promoted

The Book of Esther ends with Mordecai becoming the second most powerful man after the king. He became a great leader and helped his people live in peace and prosperity. Mordecai used his position to help others and bring good to his people.
