1 Kings is the tenth book of the Bible, recounting the beginning of King Solomon’s reign and the eventual division of the Israelite kingdom into two parts.
Part 1: Solomon’s Reign (Chapters 1-11)
  • Solomon’s Anointing as King: After the death of David, Solomon is anointed as the new king.
  • Solomon’s Wisdom: God grants Solomon great wisdom.
  • Construction of the Temple: Solomon builds the temple for God in Jerusalem.
  • Solomon’s Prosperity: His kingdom thrives in wealth, trade, and influence.
  • Solomon’s Downfall: Due to his many marriages and idolatry, Solomon angers God.
Part 2: Division of the Kingdom (Chapters 11-12)
  • Jeroboam’s Rebellion: After Solomon’s death, Jeroboam leads a rebellion of ten tribes of Israel.
  • Formation of Two Kingdoms: The once unified kingdom splits into two — Israel in the north and Judah in the south.

The book of 1 Kings marks a significant turning point in Israel’s history, from a unified monarchy to a divided kingdom. It highlights the importance of leadership, obedience, and God’s faithfulness.
